Program Description:
This program contains five presentations from the AGA Institute ’s third annual course for non-physician providers, entitled 2007 Principles of Gastroenterology for the Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant, held August 5 - 9, 2007 in San Francisco, CA. This program has been designated for up to 4.5 hours of continuing education credit by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and the American Academy of Physician Assistants. The program topics were selected based on attendees' evaluations from the course and are direct audio recordings and slides from the following sessions:

Faculty Biographical Sketches:
John I. Allen, MD, MBA, AGAF
Dr. Allen is the Medical Director of Minnesota Gastroenterology (Minn GI), one of the largest independent gastroenterology practices in the country. Minn GI has 53 gastroenterologists (6 Pediatric GI) and 21 NPPA’s covering 6 outpatient clinics, 5 Ambulatory Endoscopy Units and 12 hospitals. He is a fellow of the AGA and serves on the Leadership Council as Chair of the AGA Institute for Clinical Systems Improvement (ICSI), a nationally known regional Healthcare cooperative in Minnesota. His special interests include gastoparesis, colon cancer genetics and Quality Measurement. Prior to joining Minn GI in 1991 he was an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Minnesota and continues his teaching in an adjunct role.
John N. Inadomi, MD
John Inadomi, MD is an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine and Chief, Clinical Gastroenterology at San Francisco General Hospital. His particular areas of interest include the cost-effectiveness of screening and surveillance in Barrett’s esophagus, the impact of H. pylori on life expectancy, and the effectiveness of colorectal cancer screening. In addition he is interested in:

- Adherence and the Economics of Colon Cancer Screening
- Cost-effectiveness of Genetic Testing for Colorectal Cancer
- Use of Telehealth In-home Messaging to Improve GI Endoscopy Completion Rates
- Direct Non-Health Care Costs in Colorectal Cancer Screening
William J. Snape, Jr, MD, AGAF
Dr. William Snape is the director of the Gastrointestinal Motility Laboratory at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, CA. He has published on the role of motility disorders in causing symptoms in patients. He has pioneered different techniques to measure the motility disorders and develop treatments.
Adil Wakil, MD
Dr. Wakil began his medical training at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas and performed his gastroenterology fellowship at the University of California San Francisco. He remained on faculty at UCSF as an attending physician on the liver transplant service and pursued research interests in basic immunology. His work focused on cytokine regulation of T helper cells. Presently, Dr. Wakil is Associate Medical Director of Liver Transplantation at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. He and his colleagues at California Pacific are involved in a number of clinical trials regarding the treatment of viral hepatitis. Dr. Wakil and his colleagues also maintain extensive outreach clinics throughout Northern California and Neveda
